ABOUT SCOTT

Musically, I am a classically trained composer with a Doctorate in Music Composition from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I also have spent much time exploring the landscapes of New Age/Ambient/   Atmospheric/Cinematic genres, as well as music for film. In addition, Jazz is in my blood. My father was a Jazz trumpeter and I have studied drums with Max Roach, and also with Alan Dawson at Berklee School of Music in Boston.

I am a(n imperfectly) practising Orthodox Jew living in San Diego. I attempt to look for God’s hand in everything that happens to me and everything I perceive or feel. I feel that God is everywhere, at all times, in all places. So the potential for good exists in all reality configurations.

I am also an ardent lover of Nature, so I love hiking either in the mountains or on the coastline in the vicinity of my home in San Diego. I have a deep and somewhat indescribable connection to Kona, Hawaii, where I lived for about 12 years, prior to San Diego. In some ways, it will always be my home regardless of where I live.

ABOUT THE MUSIC

This music lives in its own world. It can survive here for a while, but it is essentially homeless. Its real home is in your heart, should you choose to accept it. Like a windblown seed* carried aloft on the air currents, its mission is to find a home - a suitable place, far from its parents, where both place and seed will see their growth nourished.

You are the Sovereign of your land. All that is there serves exclusively at your pleasure. My only desire for my music is that it be a blessing. If it achieves its purpose in you, then we are both blessed. And if not, I am still blessed that you have read this far. In either case, I send my love.

*There are seven types of windblown seeds: Gliders, Parachutes, Helicopters (Whirlybirds), Flutterer/Spinners, Cottony, Ubiquitous Tumbleweed, and Miscellaneous. Included (with caveats) in the Flutterer/Spinners is the Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima). For more, see http://waynesword.palomar.edu/plfeb99.htm

ABOUT THE ART

All art on this website was created by Scott's daughter, Shantal Freedman.

Shantal is not the sole-creator of these paintings. The paints, colors, and mediums are her co-creators. She is simply an enabler. The paints and canvases have a life of their own and she creates the environment for them to act as they please. She is not in complete control of the outcome. Before she starts her next painting, she has no idea how it will turn out by the time it is done and dry. This is part of the thrill of her painting style. As a film director, part of her job is to be an enabler. One of her functions is to allow the experts and elements of a film shine - just like what she does as a painter.
